2010 Provisional Outdoor Burn Period Begins November 16th

Welcome to the Paradise Fire Department.  The Fire Department's mission: "To provide fire prevention and an all risk response in a timely manner to the people of the Town of Paradise, for the protection and welfare of the community and for the preservation of its environment and financial base, in a highly professional and courteous manner," is much the same today as it was when the Paradise Fire Protection District was formed in 1956 to protect the community.  While the mission remains straight forward, the complexity of accomplishing that mission has increased over the years.  Residential growth has created an urban-wildland interface that requires greater preparadness than ever before.  A partnership between the professional fire fighters and home owners is a must, if this foothill environment is to remain a safe and beautiful place to live.

The mission to protect the community is the charge of 21 fire fighters, 2 division chiefs, 1 fire marshal, all led by Fire Chief Christopher P. Jensen.  The department has 3 staffed engines and 3 stations providing rapid response to their respective coverage areas.  The department is "All-Risk" meaning that we respond to all emergencies: fires, emergency medical services, hazardous materials, rescue, and public assist.  In addition to the Town's resources, CalFire maintains stations in Paradise and the neighboring community of Magalia.  These resources are available to assist with the Town's fire protection efforts under the State of California's Mutual Aid Agreement - an invaluable pledge among fire professionals to assist their peers whenever and wherever needed.

Yet in today's growing urban-wildland environment, all of the professionals and all of the best equipment are fighting a losing battle without the assistance of you, the homeowner.  Creating defensible space around your home, taking the necessary precautions, and preparing for emergencies beforehand is an absolute must.    Together, we can continue to meet the challenge of the department's mission to protect the community.
