Emergency Services/Preparedness

Where can I sign-up to be notified in an emergency?

If you currently reside within town limits, please choose the Residents of Paradise signup page.  If you would like to be notified of events affecting Paradise but do not currently reside within town limits, please choose the Non-Residents of Paradise signup page.

If I don't have AT&T as my home phone service will I be notified in the event of an emergency?

Not unless you have submitted your information to the Reverse 911 Notification Sign-up Page.

Animal Services

What are the animal regulations for the Town?

Each residential property in the Town of Paradise may be used for keeping up to four dogs and four cats.  The keeping of livestock or other farm animals (horses, chickens, goats, etc.) is subject to the standards contained within the Town of Paradise Animal Regulations (PMC Chapter 17.35) and may be kept upon most residential properties with a town-approved administrative permit, provided that the property is at least an acre or larger in net area.  Please refer to the relevant municipal code.

How old does my dog have to be before it requires a license?

Why does it cost me to bring a stray cat into the shelter?

Cats are free to roam in Paradise, so if you take possession of the cat and want us to care for it, you must pay a nominal fee to help with the cost of the care. You can review the fee schedule.

Why can't my dog be tied out to a tree or other stationary?

The State of California has passed a new law regarding restraining of dogs. H&S 122335 prohibits a person from tethering, fastening chaining, tying or restraining a dog to any house, tree, fence or other stationary object. The dog may be restrained with a running line, pulley, or trolley system (but not in conjunction with a choke or pinch collar).

How can I volunteer at the Animal Shelter?

Why does my animal have to be quarantined after a bite?

The State of California requires any animal vaccinated for Rabies or not, that bites any person to be quarantined for a period of 10 days for observation.

Property and Zoning

Do I need a tree permit?

The Town of Paradise Tree Ordinance (PMC Chapter 8.12) contains a set of regulations governing the cutting of trees in town.  Generally speaking, any tree that is ten (10) inches or more in diameter measured fifty-four (54) inches from the ground requires a town-approved tree felling permit to be issued prior to the tree being cut down for any reason.  Dead trees and fruit and nut trees, regardless of their size, are exempt from these regulations and do not require a permit.  Please refer to the tree ordinance.

What is the zoning for my property?

Each property in the Town of Paradise is situated within one of several “zoning districts” that govern the activities that may take place upon the property.  Specific regulations for each district may be found within Paradise Municipal Code (PMC) Title 17.  Please refer to the town zoning map found on the Town of Paradise website or contact town Community Development Department staff (530-872-6291) to determine the zoning that is assigned to your property.  Please refer to the zoning map.

Can I put a second dwelling on my property?

Provided that the property can accommodate the volume of wastewater generated by two dwellings, all residential properties in the Town of Paradise have the potential for the establishment of a second dwelling.  Depending upon the size of the property, the second dwelling may be limited to 750 square feet in size and will be subject to all other applicable zoning, building, sanitation and fire codes.

How many vehicles can I have on my property?

As many as you like, provided that the vehicles are operative. Inoperative vehicles must be located in a garage or behind a solid six foot fence.

How high may I build a solid fence?

Six feet high, provided that the fence is not located within the front yard setback. The front yard setback is 50’ from the center of a public street, or 30’ from the center of a private street. Chain link or wrought iron open fences may be built on the property line, but not within an easement. It is always best to check with the Town before building a fence.

Can I allow someone to live in an RV on my property?

No, however, you may allow guest to stay in an RV for up to five days.

How long can a vehicle be continuously parked on a public street?

72 hours.

Fire Department Services

When is Residential burning allowed and what can I burn?

Only vegetative waste may be burned. Burning is allowed only on authorized burn days, determined by Butte County Air Quality Management District, during the months of March, April and May. Burn Permits are $24.64.

How is the Fire Department organized?

The Fire Department is organized into 4 divisions; Administrative, Community and Life Safety Services, Operations, and Training.  We are an all risk department, meaning we respond to all emergencies within our community.

How do I get a hydrant flow review?

You may download the form or visit the Fire Department at 767 Birch Street, and request a form.

What is the procedure for the Chipper Program?

The Chipper Program is administered by Butte County Fire Safe Council through grant funding. The program is free, provided you meet the requirements. Please see our website for a list of requirements, or call the Fire Department at (530) 872-6264.

How do I report a fire hazard in my neighborhood?

Please direct all concerns to Paradise Fire, (530) 872-6264. Please be prepared to provide a property address, if possible.

Business Services

I’d like to establish a business in Paradise.  Where do I start?

Prior to executing a lease agreement, rental agreement or purchasing a property in the Town of Paradise for your business, we recommend that you fill out and submit a “New Business Checklist” to the town Community Development Department.  Town staff will route the checklist to all town departments for their written comments and return it to you in a week to ten days to help you determine whether or not the property you are considering is appropriate for your business.

Is there a wireless connection available to the public at Town Hall?

Public access is available now.

Where can I purchase B-Line Transit Tickets?

Tickets can be purchased in the Finance Department at Town Hall or on the B-Line website.
