Welcome to the Training Division of Paradise Fire Department. Training is paramount in our ability to carry out the mission of this department in the service and protection of the citizens of this community. We take great pride in the level of service which we are able to provide through countless hours of training by both full time and volunteer staff.

Training is accomplished in a variety of methods: personal study and self improvement, engine company training time, shift wide training and attendance of various classes mostly hosted by the California State Fire Marshall. Our job is very task oriented; consequently much of our training time is hands on.

One important aspect to our training program is interagency training with all other agencies within our local area. This enhances our ability to work smoothly with other agencies when called upon to help each other, which happens on a routine basis.

Our responsibility to this community requires that we are knowledgeable in many fields of expertise. The following list is a sampling of subjects in which we must be proficient and certainly is not all inclusive:

  1. Structural Firefighting
  2. Wildland Firefighting
  3. Incident Command System, command and control
  4. Weather
  5. Emergency Medical Treatment
  6. Vehicle patient extrication including the understanding of various vehicles and systems
  7. Building Construction
  8. Building and Fire codes
  9. Fire investigation of origin and cause of fire
  10. Various types of fire inspections
  11. Public education including the children
  12. Helicopter Operations
  13. Technical Rescue
    1. Canyon/cliff rope rescue
    2. Confined space rescue
    3. Urban search and rescue
