The
snowfall began at aproximately 2:00 pm on Tuesday, Feb 27. Public Works
initiated plowing at 2:07 pm with 5 pickup plows, 1 dump truck and 2
pickup sanders with de-icer. By 3:00 pm the Town added a
grader and a
second dump truck. Park and Recreation added two crews to
assist with Tree Removal. About 8 tons of de-icer was
applied, primarily on Skyway, from Pentz to South Park (County
jurisdiction) and on town trouble spots, such as Bille Hill.A private tree contractor was called in at midnight due to many trees down. The town' s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated at 2:00 a.m. The first road crew shift plowed the Town's roads all night, until shift change at 7:00 am. The second shift plowed until 2:45 pm, at which time all plow activities were completed. (Priority one, two and three roadways were completely plowed.) All roads above 1600 feet elevation (about 90% - 95% of our roadways) were plowed. This equates to about 250 lane miles of roadways, many of those miles were plowed multiple times, especially at the higher elevations. The Paradise Fire Department had four engine companies, two chief officers, and four special response teams out during the storm. They responded to 53 calls, compared to about 12 on average. The Police Department is still compiling their storm statistics at the time of this writing. Total, Paradise recieved about 6 inches of snow at the upper end to about 2 inches of snow at Neal Road with snow extending all the way down to the south town limits. The snow finally subsided around 4:00 am on Wednesday the 28th, a total of about 14 hours. Click the images below for larger pictures of the storm.
