The Fire Chief Has Determined it’s Safe to Burn Through April

For more burn permit information please contact:

The Paradise Fire Department @ 872-6264, option 1 (automated recording).

Although February had very minimal rainfall, March has been wet. In February, Paradise Fire Chief David Hawks made the statement, “In the absence of significant rain during March, burning may be suspended on April 1st.” March has brought significant rain minimizing the risk of wildland fire in the Town, therefore the Fire Chief has made the determination that the Spring Burn Period will continue at least through the month of April.

A determination of whether to extend burning through May will be made based on the fire risk toward the end of April. Please call the Paradise Burn Information line at (530) 872-6264 x 1 to check the status of burning after April 23, 2018.

  • Residential burning is permitted only with a valid burn permit.

Permits are available on-line at the following link: or in person at the Paradise Fire Department located at 767 Birch St. Paradise. The office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to noon. ($25 cash or check).

  • Only on days approved by the Butte County Air Quality Management District (BCAQMD). Prior to burning please call BCAQMD at 332-9407 for daily burn status, listen to option 2 for information specific to Paradise.
  • March 1, 2018 through May 31, 2018: On permissive burn days approved by BCAQMD, residents may burn alternating East and West Zones. Residents East of Clark Rd. may burn the 1st through the 15th of the month; residents West of Clark Rd. may burn the 16th through the end of the month.
  • 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (fire and embers must be completely extinguished by 2:00 p.m.).
  • Burning may be suspended during periods of strong wind. Any suspension will be reflected in the BCAQMD daily burn status.
