For Immediate Release: Suspicious Package Investigation at Gold Nugget Museum
Date: June 23, 2026
On 6/23/2026, the Paradise Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious package located on the front porch of the Gold Nugget Museum. Due to the nature of the package and out of an abundance of caution, portions of Pearson Road and Academy Drive were temporarily closed while officers investigated the incident.
The discovery occurred following recent social media activity in which current Gold Nugget Museum board members received hostile and concerning comments after a Facebook post. While the investigation remains ongoing, preliminary information suggests the package was not an explosive device. Investigators believe the item was likely placed with the intent to cause fear, alarm, or intimidation among members of the public and current museum board members.
The Paradise Police Department requested assistance from the Butte County Inter-Agency Bomb Squad, whose personnel responded quickly and professionally to assess the situation. Their expertise allowed investigators to safely determine that the package did not pose an explosive threat to the community.
We would like to thank the Butte County Inter-Agency Bomb Squad for their rapid response and partnership in ensuring the safety of our residents and visitors.
The Paradise Police Department takes any act intended to intimidate, threaten, or create fear within our community seriously. This incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact the Paradise Police Department.
We appreciate the patience and cooperation of community members during the temporary road closures and police activity.
