Date: July 20, 2026
On July 20, 2026 the Paradise Police Department has arrested a Paradise resident following an investigation into the alleged embezzlement of funds from the Paradise High School Sports Boosters Club.
In late May 2026, the Paradise Police Department opened an investigation after receiving information alleging the president of the Paradise High School Sports Booster’s Club was possibly embezzling money generated through the organization's fundraising activities.
During the investigation, detectives determined that Shannon Magpusao, 53, of Paradise, used his position as board president and allegedly embezzled thousands of dollars from the Sports Boosters Club. The stolen funds were intended to advance and support student-athletes attending Paradise High School through programs and activities funded by the Boosters Club.
The Paradise High School Boosters Club is an independent organization 501(c)(3) non-profit and is not a part of the Paradise Unified School District.
On July 20, 2026, Magpusao was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail on one count of felony embezzlement (California Penal Code § 503). Bail was set at $15,000.
