For Immediate Release: 25-0639 Reckless Driving Arrest

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 25-0639 RECKLESS DRIVING ARREST

Date: July 19, 2025

In response to ongoing traffic complaints from residents in the area, Officer Newsom conducted a traffic

enforcement operation on the morning of July 18, 2025, along Sawmill Road.

At approximately 6:00 am, Officer Newsom observed a white Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling at a high

rate of speed on Pearson Road. The vehicle failed to stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection of

Pearson Road and Sawmill Road before continuing onto Sawmill Road at an unsafe speed.

Officer Newsom followed the vehicle and confirmed its speed to be in excess of 80 miles per hour by

pacing it with his patrol unit. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver was identified as Aaron Castillo.

When questioned, Castillo stated he was running late for work, attempting to justify his reckless driving

behavior. Due to the excessive speed and failure to obey traffic controls, Castillo was placed under arrest

for reckless driving, and his vehicle was impounded.

The Paradise Police Department remains committed to addressing traffic safety concerns throughout the

community and encourages drivers to obey posted speed limits and traffic signs at all times. Officer

Newsom's efforts were in support of our participation in the "Speed Catches Up With You" campaign, in

partnership with the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety

Association.

LOCATION: Pearson Rd. at Sawmill Rd.
