On 07/15/2025 at approximately 2019 hours, PPD officers observed a vehicle committing a traffic violation near Pearson Road and Mallan Lane. Upon initiating the stop, officers contacted the driver, David Estrada and passenger, Steven Edwards. Officers engaged the driver in a standard roadside interview and based on the driver’s conduct and responses, officers requested consent to search the vehicle. Estrada voluntarily granted consent.
In the vehicle, officers located drug paraphernalia both Estrada and Edwards admitted to the paraphernalia belonging to them. Officers conducted a search incident to arrest both Estrada and Edwards. During the search, officers located approximately 84.73 grams of suspected methamphetamine on Estrada’s person. Edwards possessed 4.87 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 2.95 grams of heroin.
During a mirandized interview, Estrada admitted to possessing almost three ounces of suspected methamphetamine for the purpose of selling it.
Estrada had previously been convicted twice for possessing methamphetamine. With the passing of Prop. 36 in California, the simple possession of methamphetamine is a felony for Estrada.
Estrada was booked into the Butte County Jail on charges including possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, transportation of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine with two or more prior convictions and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Edwards was booked into the Butte County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of a narcotic, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
