For Immediate Release: Suspect learns wrong time, wrong place and wrong direction

Date:
August 19, 2025
Officers with the Paradise Police Department encountered an unexpected game of hide and seek in the early morning hours of 8/19/2025 at the former Feather River Hospital which has been closed for some time and has unfortunately become a repeat target for copper thefts and vandalism.
An alert citizen heard the sound of power tools coming from the building prior to notifying law enforcement. As one officer began to drive around the building, their vehicle light caught the attention of a man prowling suspiciously around the closed facility. Upon realizing he had been caught, the subject fled in a dramatic fashion, directly into the path of another officer waiting.
The subjects “great escape” lasted less than five seconds, shattering no records and impressing no one. His attempt of stealth would have worked perfectly…if the vehicle lights were not shining right at him, and there was not another officer exactly where he decided to run.
This was a textbook case of bad planning. If you’re going to sprint into the night, we recommend not aiming straight for the nearest badge and flashlight.
Shane Gibson was detained without further incident.
Paradise Police Department would like to remind residents that prowling around closed hospitals is not a recommended evening hobby. Anyone with legitimate interest in copper is encouraged to try plumbing school instead.
