PRESS RELEASE- 02/24/2023- COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DATE: FEBRUARY 24, 2023

During the Thursday night-Friday morning snow storm, officers were dispatched to a report of a burglary alarm at Paradise Smoke Shop, 6505 Skyway. The business owner also called after he reviewed surveillance cameras and saw that the glass door at the front of the business was shattered.

Sergeant Akin arrived first and saw a set of footprints in the snow leading throught the parking lot to the shattered door, and a set of fresh footprints in the snow leading away from the business toward Elliott Rd. Sgt Akin walked through the parking lot, following the footprints west on Elliott Rd through neighborhoods for a little over a mile. There Officer Wood and K9 Ridge picked up Sgt. Akin and they tracked the footprints in a vehicle to an address on Yorkshire Dr. The footprints led to a side entrance of a house.

Officer Wood knocked on the door and interviewed the residents. Officer Wood’s investigation determined 23-year-old Hezekiah Seaton was responsible not just for this burglary, but for a nearly identical burglary at the same business on January 30th this year. Seaton was placed under arrest and booked at Butte County Jail with bail set at $60,000.
